Air Defense Sectors (BOMARC only)
From the mid-1950s through most of 1966, air divisions within Air Defense Command contained subordinate echelons above the wing level called Air Defense Sectors. These were named rather than numbered, and the names were almost always those of the closest large city where the sector headquarters was located. In some cases, a BOMARC squadron was assigned directly to a sector rather than an intermediate organization such as a wing. At the peak year of 1960, there were 21 sectors, but BOMARC units were located in just eight of those, so only the emblems of those eight are contained in this album. After the sectors were inactivated, the remaining BOMARC squadrons that had been assigned directly to a sector were either assigned to a wing or directly to an air division. The eight sectors which contained BOMARC units are presented here in alphabetical order.
